Mrs. Pernick has been an educator since 2002. Throughout her career, she has taught 2nd, 4th, 5th and 6th grades. She has been an Esperanza Lobo since 2019. She prides herself on providing a welcoming, organized, safe and respectful learning environment, where students learn and grow. Recognizing that a child's education is a team effort, Mrs. Pernick encourages communication and support between home and school. The best ways to reach Mrs. Pernick are through ClassDojo, email or phone call.
In order to best prepare her students for 3rd grade, Mrs. Pernick highly recommends that her students read out loud every day (including weekends) for at least 20 minutes. Committing to memory all addition and subtraction facts between 0 and 12, will further prepare students for their future schooling. Studying the weekly spelling words will help students prepare for the weekly assessments, but more importantly understand the connection between reading and writing. We work on handwriting throughout the school year. Students should be able to spell their first and last names, know how to write all the letters in both upper and lower case, and be able to write a complete sentence that begins with a capital letter and ends with proper punctuation. Working together at both home and school, will help to solidify these skills so students have a successful 2nd grade year and are prepared for the next step in their education.
When she isn't teaching, Mrs. Pernick loves to read and foster cats and kittens for the Arizona Humane Society. She values time with her friends and family. She is married and has a daughter who attends college.
